Conservatives will discuss the environment today at Duke University. Politicians, academics and business leaders are among those attending and speaking at the event, entitled Conservative Visions of our Environmental Future. Jessalee Landfried is one of the organizers of the event and a Duke law student who's also pursuing a degree at Duke-Nicholas School of the Environment. She says these issues have become deeply partisan.
Landfried continues, "That hasn't always been the case, right? Richard Nixon, he created the EPA. He signed some of our most important environmental legislation. Environmentalism used to be bipartisan and a lot of environmental initiatives even seem like they should appeal naturally to conservative audiences.
Landfried says speakers will address issues like climate change and offer market-based solutions. There will also be discussions about the country's energy future. The event is being held at the Reynolds Industries Theater.
