A Back to School Safety Summit in North Carolina will focus on topics that include school resource officer training, student resources for preventing violence and a new State Bureau of Investigation unit focused on threat analysis.
The event will be held Monday afternoon in the auditorium of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Pam Walker says she expects 300 to 400 people to attend.
Speakers include Gov. Roy Cooper and the secretaries of the Department of Public Safety and the Department of Health and Human Services.
Other topics include proposed legislation affecting school safety and a tool developed by the N.C. Administrative Office of the Courts that will help keep students in school and out of court for routine misconduct.
