J. Roddy Walston And The Business On World Cafe

Beneath the humor-tinged lyrics, J. Roddy Walston and The Business crack down on what it means to survive in this world. After leaving Tennessee, J. Roddy and his band The Business landed in Baltimore, but leaving Tennessee did not mean they would leave behind their southern bible-belt roots.

The quartet stomped through the world head on, with smirks on their faces and a fist-pumping attitude. Their infectiously rugged southern rock 'n' roll, laden with repetitive hooks, praises rock in its purest form. With their bluesy chord progressions, distorted guitars and those grizzly vocals, J-Roddy Walston and The Business has the gritty air of Kings of Leon circa 2003 mixed with uplifting choral anthems a la Dr. Dog.

Following the release of Hail Mega Boys in 2007, the group emerges with their celebratory second collection of tracks. Recorded in merely nine days in Los Angeles, the self-titled album definitely retains the raw energy of its popular live performance -- rowdy rock, conquering choruses and all. Sometimes it is far more refreshing to hear a band play classic rock in a jolting way than to hear some newly defined and overly processed pseudo sub-genre. In this case, J. Roddy and The Business are particularly refreshing, and when it comes to style, they've got it.
