Kings Go Forth On 'World Cafe: Next'

Co-founded by bassist Andy Noble and vocalist Black Wolf, Kings Go Forth is a 10-piece band near the forefront of the soul revival. Hailing from Milwaukee, Wis., the group draws much of its inspiration from classic R&B artists of the '60s and '70s. With an ensemble that's sonically diverse (three lead vocalists, a horn duo and congas, in addition to a full rhythm section) and also spanning a broad range of ages and ethnicities, Kings Go Forth has created a groove all its own.

Noble, a Milwaukee native and old-school soul aficionado, was introduced to a variety of musical styles through his parents from an early age -- at age 5, he was already tagging along with his family to live shows. Eventually, his love for music led him to open a record store, where in 2004 he met Black Wolf, a talented vocalist and songwriter who'd been performing in and around the Milwaukee area since the 1970s. Soon thereafter, Kings Go Forth was born.

The band's new album, The Outsiders Are Back, showcases a fun, roots-heavy sound. Hear two songs from the disc on this edition of World Cafe: Next.
