Dinosaur Jr. In Concert

When the original lineup of Dinosaur Jr. reunited in 2005, more than 20 years after the band first formed in Amherst, Mass., skeptics figured the group was looking for an excuse to recycle its back catalog. But the band answered with 2007's excellent Beyond, the first album of new material from guitarist J Mascis, bassist Lou Barlow and drummer Murph since 1988's Bug. Now, the trio is together again and on tour for this year's Farm, a collection of brawny, melodic rock songs that many rank among the band's best. Hear Dinosaur Jr. perform selections from Farm — along with an assortment of old favorites — in a full concert, recorded live at Washington, D.C.'s 9:30 Club. The performance includes an opening solo set by Lou Barlow.

Barlow, who originally left Dinosaur Jr. in 1988 and found a prolific career with the bands Sebadoh and Folk Implosion, has rejoined Dinosaur Jr. But he's also touring in support of his own solo album, Goodnight Unknown, which you can hear in its entirety as part of NPR Music's Exclusive First Listen series.
