The members of Philadelphia's Hoots & Hellmouth are experts at creating what they call "new music for old souls." Guitarists Sean Hoots and Andrew "Hellmouth" Gray (with Rob Berliner on mandolin) have crafted a distinct brand of what they call "bleeding soul," taking their cues from mountain musicians like Doc Watson, as well as the dynamic gospel sound of the Rev. Gary Davis. Click the link above to hear Hoots & Hellmouth perform live in concert from WXPN and World Cafe Live in Philadelphia.
Hoots & Hellmouth's 2007 self-titled debut, produced by the legendary Philly producer Brian McTear, successfully captures the wild intensity of the band's live performances. Since the release of that album, the band has toured tirelessly, stopping only to make its loud and raucous sophomore record The Holy Open Secret, on which Hoots & Hellmouth's live energy is captured in all its sweaty glory.
