The Flatlanders: The Big Texas Three

Comprising three of Texas' most revered songwriters — Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock — The Flatlanders is the stuff of legend. The three first collaborated in the early 1970s, releasing just one album, then split to pursue distinguished solo careers. Their reunion three decades later has yielded a string of well-crafted Americana albums, including the latest, Hills and Valleys.

The trio spent relentless hours putting together this eight-tracked album, and the result is filled with acoustic folk-rock energy, carefully crafted melodies and lyrical tales. Despite their distinctly individual approaches to songwriting, their friendship of 40 years has established an incredible sense of cohesion that can only be understood by listening to their music.
