After years of writing music for other artists, as well as working on movies and TV shows, Phil Roy knows music. He's been playing guitar since he was 9, attended the Berklee College of Music at 17, and headed to Los Angeles to front two bands during the '80s before focusing exclusively on songwriting. Now, he's struck out on his own as a solo artist. Click the link above to hear Roy perform live in concert from WXPN and World Cafe Live in Philadelphia.
After moving to Philadelphia, Roy released his smooth, sincere debut album, Grouchyfriendly, and followed it with two more folksy soul albums. His newest disc, The Great Longing, sounds inventive and lush, and features guests such as Amos Lee, Madeleine Peyroux and fellow rising local Melody Gardot.
