Matthew De Zoete makes classic folk pop with simple, graceful arrangements and melodies. Influenced by great songwriters such as Nick Drake, Elliott Smith, and Ron Sexsmith, the Hamilton, Ontario musician has gained a reputation for his brilliant song craft.
With song titles like "Letters sent by Mail" and "Something Left Behind", De Zoete's album, Across the Sea, conveys feelings of loneliness, separation, and nostalgia. His storytelling of long distance relationships and histories are personal and moving. On "Letters sent by Mail", warm acoustic guitar is joined with well orchestrated brass and bells to create uplifting, majestic instrumentation.
With the help of musicians Aaron Goldstein, Paul VanDyk, and Ian Venema, Matthew continues to establish himself by touring and starting work on another album. He's performed at several music festivals in Canada and the U.S. including North by Northeast and Indie Week Toronto.
