Sarah Borges and the Broken Singles' members claim influences as far-reaching as Mahalia Jackson, Sid Vicious and Merle Haggard, so it's no surprise that the band boasts a unique sound. The group's 2005 debut, Silver City, showcased an unusual knack for mixing alternative rock with country, earning an impressive assortment of critical raves. Borges and her band spent a good portion of 2005 touring in support of the album, often opening for influences such as Dave Alvin.
The buzz surrounding Sarah Borges and the Broken Singles was enough for the group to secure a national label deal, which resulted in the June release of Diamonds in the Dark. The album features 12 diverse tracks, influenced by everything from Dolly Parton to '60s-style bubblegum pop.
