St. Vincent: Consistently Captivating

Annie Clark is St. Vincent.
Annie Clark is St. Vincent.

Performing under the name St. Vincent, singer and multi-instrumentalist Annie Clark is set to release her debut album, a collection of clever and beautifully arranged indie-pop songs.

Before striking out on her own, the 23-year-old singer first played guitar for Sufjan Stevens' touring band, as well as on The Polyphonic Spree's new album The Fragile Army. While touring with Stevens in Europe, Clark released the Paris Is Burning EP; since then, she's made a name for herself touring with bands like Television, The Arcade Fire, Xiu Xiu and Midlake.

Her first full-length album as St. Vincent, Marry Me, is a subtly infectious record; propelled by warm strings, horns and keyboards (in addition to the more traditional guitars, bass and drums), the songs alternately rock out and break down into noisy deconstructions. Lyrically, she's both serious and tongue-in-cheek, but consistently captivating.
