Marc Broussard in Concert

Marc Broussard.
Marc Broussard.

Marc Broussard is a self-proclaimed "white boy singing soul music," but that playfully dismissive tag doesn't do him justice. His music radiates soulful Louisiana blues, but his songs blend those influences with raucous rock 'n' roll to create unique and infectious music. Broussard performed a concert from WXPN and World Cafe Live in Philadelphia on Nov. 24.

Louisiana is all over Broussard's music: He named his debut album, Carencro, after his hometown, and his father is a Louisiana Hall of Fame Guitarist. His relatives have even been known to hold marathon jam sessions at family barbeques. Broussard himself is a regular at high-profile festivals like Bonnaroo, and has toured with Dave Matthews, Willie Nelson, Tori Amos and Maroon 5. His newest album is a 2005 live disc to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
