The music of The Guggenheim Grotto blends classical instruments such as the viola, the glockenspiel, the Wurlitzer and the Hammond organ with the more conventional guitar, bass and piano for a haunting and melodic sound that often evokes tragic love stories.
The Guggenheim Grotto began as the duo of Mick Lynch and Kevin May, who toured the same singer/songwriter circuit in Ireland that launched Damien Rice's career. They were soon joined by Shane Power, a skilled musician and sound engineer who helped them develop their distinctive sound. The group's debut album, ...Waltzing Alone, was released last year in Ireland. It came out last month in the U.S. and Canada, where the band is currently touring.
