Toby Lightman's debut album, Little Things, brought the singer-songwriter widespread radio airplay and an impressive array of press raves, and did a nice job of highlighting her honest lyrics and soulful rock style. Taking inspiration from rock and R&B, as well as jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald, she's created a unique style that generates comparisons to everyone from Sheryl Crow to Alicia Keys. Lightman performed live from WXPN and World Cafe Live in Philadelphia on Aug. 25.
After touring for a year and a half, Lightman opted for a more organic and less computer-generated sound for her second album, Bird on a Wire. The disc nicely captures her ability to seamlessly mix R&B with rock, and demonstrates how much she's matured and gained confidence since her debut.
