Four years ago, Philip Connors gave up a job as a copy editor in New York to become a fire lookout at the Gila National Forest in New Mexico.
The fire-watching gig lasts six months a year. He just finished his last stint of the summer, and now he's back home in Silver City, N.M. Fulltime, he's a freelance writer. Both jobs are a pretty good fit for getting some reading in.
