Sphinx Competition Showcases Minority Musicians

The Sphinx Competition in Detroit is just one arm of multi-dimensional organization whose goal is to increase black and Latino participation in classical music. From last week's competition, Junior Division winner Gabriel Cabezas plays a movement of the J.C. Bach Cello Concerto in C minor with the Sphinx Chamber Orchestra. Chelsea Tipton conducts.

Then a performance from last year's competition: Senior Division winner Christina Castelli plays William Grant Still's "Mother and Child Suite." Paul Freeman conducts the Sphinx Symphony.
