Webster Departure Leaves Accounting Board in Limbo

Questions arise over whether a new federal accounting oversight committee will be able to do its job after the resignation yesterday of its chairman, William Webster. The board's first scheduled meeting is today. NPR's Jack Speer reports.

Senate to Debate Higher Fuel Standards

A new energy bill sets up a Senate debate on a measure to increase fuel economy standards. It would require that cars, trucks and SUVs achieve an average of 35 miles per gallon by 2020. That's 10 miles per gallon over current levels.

Tuesday is the deadline to file federal income tax forms. Of 135 million forms expected this year, at least half will be filed electronically. And 20 percent will come in during this last week.
