by Frank Stasio and Lindsay Thomas
Five years ago, music fan Melissa Thomas thought long and hard about how she could help promote the music of local artists that she loved in Durham. Soon, she went from a fan to the founder of a music label, which she dubbed 307 Knox Records. Now, Thomas' company distributes Bull City acts like Midtown Dickens, Future Kings of Nowhere and Birds & Arrows, to name a few. This weekend, 307 Knox will celebrate its 5th anniversary in the community that nurtured it. Thomas and her business partner, Alicia Loggie, join host Frank Stasio to talk about developing the little indie label that could and explain why they take an unconventional approach to promoting their artists.
