In 1865, Mrs. Julia C. Collins began publishing a serialized romance novel that left her readers hanging at the end of every chapter. She died that same year and the suspense was never resolved…until now. Host Frank Stasio speaks with William Andrews, co-editor of “The Curse of Caste; or The Slave Bride: A Rediscovered African American Novel” (Oxford University Press/2006), about what many consider to be the first novel ever published by a black American woman.
