More than 50 years ago, a mysterious creature went on a rampage, devouring dogs and goats in the small southeastern North Carolina town of Bladenboro. The killings terrorized the town and gave rise to the legendary Beast of Bladenboro. Last year, students at Duke's Center for Documentary Studies turned their cameras on the town, examining how the legend of the beast has shaped Bladenboro's identity. Their films will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Richard White Auditorium on Duke's East Campus. Today Frank Stasio talks with CDS instructors Randy Benson, Erika Simon, student filmmaker Adair Hill and Hiram Hill, founder of the Beast of Bladenboro festival.
