Raleigh Metro Shines in Economic Recovery

The latest unemployment numbers released by the North Carolina Department of Commerce show an increase in most of the state's 100 counties. And when you cross county lines and combine cities into metro areas, the jobless rate still seems to be on the rise again. But there is one area of the state that continues to out-perform all others, the Raleigh - Cary metropolitan area.

PNC Invests $1 Million In Education, Economic Development

PNC is investing a million dollars in North Carolina to spur the economy and boost preschool education.

Asma Khalid: The Pittsburgh-based bank is collaborating with Wake County Public Schools, Carolina Ballet and the North Carolina Museum of Art to introduce low-income students to the arts.

Wake County Superintendent Tony Tata welcomes the PNC initiative.

PNC Puts Name On Arena

The last remnant of RBC Bank in the Triangle was removed earlier today. Governor Bev Perdue and others officially renamed the RBC Center the PNC Arena at a ceremony in Raleigh.

Dave DeWitt: Today, PNC officials and Governor Perdue were all smiles as the very last RBC sign came down, and a PNC Arena logo took its place. But tomorrow, the company is expected to start laying off employees in Raleigh and Rocky Mount – perhaps more than 600.

Governor Perdue says the job losses are a temporary setback.

RBC Center To Become PNC Arena

Raleigh’s largest sports and indoor concert venue is getting a new name. The RBC Center will be called the PNC Arena.

Like dozens of arena renamings before it, this one comes because of a corporate takeover. Pittsburgh-based PNC Financial Services bought Canadian-based RBC Bank for $3.45 billion back in June. The deal is subject to regulatory approval.
