Wolfpack In Charlotte For Bowl

NC State football fans are making their way to Charlotte today. The Wolfpack is playing Louisville in the Belk Bowl.

This has been a challenging and triumphant year to be an NC State football fan. Coach Tom O’Brien says that especially early in the season, things didn’t look good.

Tom O'Brien: "Certainly we’re excited about the opportunity to continue our season. At a point 7 games ago we didn’t look like we’d be on anyone’s radar."

Scientists Using Web Donations to Fund Projects

Scientists are using the Internet to raise money for their projects.

Scientists are used to relying on grants for funding, and that's not likely to change anytime soon. But a recent trend called "crowd-sourcing" could help small projects get underway. It's basically a kick starter campaign where the general public gives online donations for scientists' research. North Carolina State chemistry professor Walter Weare was able to pay for new equipment for his solar energy research using the method.

Researchers to Design a Future Internet

Researchers from NC State and UNC Chapel Hill are working on an improved blueprint for the Internet. The project is part of the National Science Foundation’s effort on “Future Internet Architecture.”  The team in North Carolina is focused on making more choices available to end-users. Ilia Baldine is a senior researcher at UNC.

"Occupy" Protestors Face Wells Fargo CEO

The head of Wells Fargo Bank addressed a crowd at N-C State University yesterday.   But there was a break in the script once protesters from the “occupy” movement interrupted the speech and were eventually escorted out.

It was no secret – the scheduled speech by Wells Fargo C-E-O John Stumpf would definitely be interrupted.  The only question was WHEN.  Stumpf opened his speech at N-C State’s Poole College of Management joking about the emails he received from students inviting him out after the talk.
