Investigation: UNC Football Player Got At Least $2,000 From Agent

Former UNC-Chapel Hill football player Marvin Austin said in documents unsealed today in Wake County Superior Court that a player agent, Terry Shawn Watson from Georgia, paid him several thousand dollars cash. The money came to Austin in a Fed-Ex package while he was a player at Carolina in 2010.

Other payments were sent to the home of Jennifer Wiley. She was the tutor who was at the center of an academic fraud scandal that came out of the investigation into the football program.

NC State Meets Vandy in Music City

In college football, NC State plays Vanderbilt today in the Music City Bowl.

The Wolfpack entered the season with hopes of an ACC championship, but posted just a seven and five record, resulting in the firing of head coach Tom O'Brien. New coach Dave Doeren won't lead State in this game. That job goes to offensive coordinator Dana Bible. The interim coach says today is both a challenge and a building block.

Duke Football to Play its First Bowl Game in 18 Years

Duke's football team is playing in a bowl game for the first time in 18 seasons. The Blue Devils meet Cincinnati tomorrow evening in Charlotte.

Duke hasn't been to college football's version of the post-season since 1994, and they haven't won a bowl game since New Year's Day 1961. That Blue Devil squad beat Arkansas 7-6. Head coach David Cutcliffe says:

"I want them to feel a sense of history as they play here because the history does indicate some tough times, but it also represents the best of the best."

WSSU Plays For Division II Football Championship

Winston-Salem State University is playing in the Division II football national championship tomorrow against Georgia's Valdosta State.

Winston-Salem State had been transitioning to Division I athletics, but the school did an about face two years ago because the move was too costly. Some supporters were upset that the Rams wouldn't become a Division I member. Head Coach Connell Mayor says his undefeated football team has provided a solution.
