Charlotte Union Gets Ready for DNC

Work begins today on converting Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte into a suitable site for the Democratic National Convention. We hear all the time that North Carolina is one of the most anti-union states in the country and it's true there are few labor unions here. But some of the ones that are here will be out in force over the coming months preparing Charlotte for the DNC. WFAE's Julie Rose reports on one local union that plays a significant role in Charlotte year-round.

GOP Runoff For Secretary Of State

Early voting ends Saturday in North Carolina's primary run-off elections. In races in which no candidate received more than 40% of the vote in the May 8th primary, the top 2 vote-getters face off on Tuesday for their party's nomination. In addition to several U.S. House and General Assembly seats, there are run-offs for 5 statewide offices. Isaac-Davy Aronson has this look at the two candidates for the Republican nomination for Secretary of State.

McCrory Makes Campaign Stop In Cary

Republican Pat McCrory brought his campaign for governor to the Triangle yesterday. 

Pat McCrory: I need your help. This is going to be a fight.

Gurnal Scott: Some of McCrory's supporters who came to see him in Cary may find that hard to believe. New numbers from left-leaning Public Policy polling show him with a seven-point lead on Democratic candidate Walter Dalton. McCrory took time to talk his goals should he win in November. He says a top priority is creating opportunities for people to find jobs.

McCrory Campaign Raises $2.2 M In 2nd Quarter

Republican Pat McCrory's gubernatorial campaign reported its campaign funding for the second quarter today. His campaign committee announced it had raised over 2.2 million dollars during the second quarter of 2012. Brian Nick is a spokesman for the McCrory campaign.

Brian Nick: What some people may not know is he was vastly outspent in the 2008 election by Governor Perdue. And so to have the kind of resources on hand in this election to be able to get his message out is a very important thing so he isn't massively outspent like he was last time.
