When Gov. Beverly Perdue announced earlier this year that she wasn’t running for a second term, she became North Carolina’s first one-term governor in nearly 40 years. Her unexpected bowing out and the recent redistricting have combined to create a turbulent election season on the state level.

Justice Paul Newby, the Republican incumbent running for the state Supreme Court, has released a new TV ad. He's running against Democratic Judge Sam Ervin.

North Carolinians should hear more ads from Newby and Ervin as election day nears. Newby's campaign has released a new one this week.

There was another debate last night. Democrat Walter Dalton and Republican Pat McCrory are vying to be the next Governor of North Carolina. They met in the first of three scheduled Gubernatorial forums and answered questions about a wide range of topics.

The Democratic gubernatorial candidate, Lieutenant Governor Walter Dalton, announced an economic plan today that he says will create more jobs. It includes tax breaks for small businesses and a plan to attract more industries to the state. Capitol Bureau Chief Jessica Jones reports. 

Jessica Jones: Dalton officially unveiled his plan on the patio of a popular brewpub in downtown Raleigh earlier today. A few minutes into his speech, he pulled out a sweet potato and proceeded to explain why he’d brought it along to the press conference.
