On Tuesday, North Carolina voters will elect a new governor. They'll also make selections for Council of State offices. Isaac-Davy Aronson has this look at the two candidates for State Treasurer.

 Steve Royal thinks North Carolinians should be very worried.

Steve Royal: "We cannot continue promising people this money in the future at the rate we are right now. It simply is not sustainable."

 Since 2010, Republicans have had a majority in both the state House and the state Senate. Many observers believe the House will stay in Republican hands, but the race for control of the Senate will be decided in a handful of districts. District 18- which includes Franklin County and portions of Wake County- is one of them. It pits Democratic incumbent Senator Doug Berger against a former Republican legislative staffer, Chad Barefoot.

When Gov. Beverly Perdue announced earlier this year that she wasn’t running for a second term, she became North Carolina’s first one-term governor in nearly 40 years. Her unexpected bowing out and the recent redistricting have combined to create a turbulent election season on the state level.
