Program Descriptions

All Things Considered - The original flagship newsmagazine from NPR includes world news, features, reviews, analysis, and commentary. Hosted by Robert Siegel, Michele Norris and Melissa Block. WUNC's polished news team provides local news and weather.

This American Life - Built around the innovative, personal vision of host Ira Glass, This American Life, from Public Radio International and WBEZ/Chicago, documents and describes contemporary America. It is, quite literally, a new kind of radio storytelling.

Back Porch Music - WUNC-FM's home grown Back Porch Music is the longest continually running locally-produced program on WUNC. The program presents a wide range of acoustic-based folk music - from contemporary singer/songwriters to old-time musicians of the 20s and 30s, and from classic Celtic to blues - and beyond. Hosted on Friday and Saturday nights by Freddy Jenkins and on Sunday nights by Keith Weston.

The BBC Newshour - Sixty minutes of news, comment, and analysis from the world's largest news organization.

BBC World Service - A collection of various programming broadcast on the BBC. May include talk and quiz shows, news, drama, and other programming.

Car Talk - Supplying public radio listeners with bad car advice, Car Talk is a weekly call-in show featuring Tom and Ray Magliozzi (Click and Clack the Tappet Brothers).

The Diane Rehm Show -For more than 25 years, The Diane Rehm Show has offered listeners thoughtful and lively conversations on an array of topics with many of the most distinguished people of our times. Diane’s guests include many of the nation’s top newsmakers, journalists, and authors, from former president Bill Clinton, to Archbishop Desmond Tutu, to Julie Andrews. Each show includes dialogue with listeners who call to take part in an exchange of ideas.

Fresh Air with Terry Gross - Terry Gross is the host of NPR's acclaimed interview program. Terry's insightful interviews are coupled with reviews of music, film, TV, books, and pop culture.

 

Marketplace - Public Radio International's series about business, the global economy and finance, this show looks at the world through the lenses of business and economics.

Marketplace Money -Marketplace Money looks at the world through the lens of business and economics. This personal finance program applies Marketplace’s style and expertise to take an intelligent, interesting, and informed look at the effect money has on us, and in turn, what affects our money. In the process, it educates listeners to help them take control of their financial lives.

Morning Edition - National Public Radio's award-winning morning news program, hosted by Steve Inskeep in Washington and Renee Montagne in Los Angeles. Newscasts, news features, reviews, analysis, and commentaries are supplemented by WUNC's high-quality local news coverage, commentary, reviews, and weather.

On The Media - NPR's media program focusing on three basic areas: a review of media coverage and current news stories, issues that challenge journalists and affect the public, and behind-the-scenes information about news organizations and journalists. Hosted by Brooke Gladstone and Bob Garfield.

Sound Opinions - a weekly rock n roll talk show from WBEZ-FM, Chicago.

The People's Pharmacy - Everything from home remedies to the latest breakthrough drugs are discussed on The People's Pharmacy. Each week on the program, pharmacologist Joe Graedon and medical anthropologist Terry Graedon talk to leading experts to discuss issues relating to drugs, herbs, home remedies, vitamins and related health topics.

The Splendid Table - Lynne Rossetto Kasper a weekly exploration of food and cooking, covering the entire subject of food as it touches our lives and feeds our souls. More than a cooking program, The Splendid Table is about meals as a gathering place, classic dishes and new discoveries, travel and other cultures, feeding a family on the run, and lots more.

The State of Things - The State of Things is a new weekday edition of WUNC's public affairs program. It features interviews, discussion and stories about issues and ideas affecting the people of North Carolina.

Talk of the Nation - NPR's afternoon call-in talk program hosted by Neal Conan. This is talk radio for the thinking person dealing with a wide variety of topics in a unique in-depth way. Renowned experts are included, and listeners can call to weigh in with comments and opinions. On Friday Ira Flatow hosts Science Friday, focusing on the latest science and health issues.

The Thistle and Shamrock - NPR's Fiona Ritchie hosts radio's finest Celtic hour, with music from evolving traditions in The British Isles, Ireland, North America, and beyond.

Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me - From a team including Doug Berman, the Peabody Award-winning producer of Car Talk, comes Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me, NPR's new weekly news quiz program. Host Peter Sagal leads an entertaining assembly of panelists through games designed to test their knowledge of the week's news and their wit. NPR News' Carl Kasell serves as judge and score keeper for this fast-paced, fresh, and irreverent look at the week's events.

Weekend Edition - The weekend version of NPR's Morning Edition. Weekend Edition is hosted by Scott Simon on Saturday and Audie Cornish on Sunday.
