Republican Elizabeth Dole is one of two U.S. Senators serving North Carolina. She is seeking re-election to another six year term. Dole is being challenged by Democrat Kay Hagan and Libertarian Christopher Cole.

Prior to Dole's election in 2002, the seat was held for 30 years by Republican Jesse Helms. Former Senator Helms died in July.

Democratic State Senator Kay Hagan will soon be North Carolina’s next U.S. Senator in Washington. She defeated the Republican incumbent, Elizabeth Dole. She defeated the Republican incumbent, Elizabeth Dole, 52.5 to 44.4 percent. Jessica Jones reports.
