Libertarian candidate: Mike Munger

Mike Munger has been chairman of the Political Science department at Duke University since 2000. He's a widely-respected scholar and a prolific author of articles and papers on politics, economics, and public policy.
Munger was born near Orlando, FL. He came to NC as a college student, earning his BS in Economics at Davidson College. He earned his Master's and Doctoral degrees in Economics at Washington University in St. Louis.
Munger worked for the Federal Trade Commission as a staff economist for two years during the first Reagan administration. He moved into academia shortly thereafter, teaching at Dartmouth and the Univ. of Texas before coming to Chapel Hill in 1990. He was Director of UNC s Master of Public Administration Program before leaving Chapel Hill for Duke in 1997.
Munger announced he would run for governor in 2006. He succeeded in gathering the more than 65,000 signatures needed to qualify for the race as a third-party candidate.

While many political heavyweights are building war chests and "considering" a run for governor in 2008, only one candidate has officially thrown his hat into the ring. Mike Munger is a Libertarian and chair of the political science department at Duke University, but if he is going to get onto the ballot, he needs 69,000 signatures on a petition.
