Jeremy Loeb: The Raleigh City Council will take up the issue of high-speed rail Tuesday. They are expected to vote on a recommendation for how the train should be routed through downtown. Dave DeWitt reports.
Dave DeWitt: Last month, Raleigh city staff recommended a route for the high-speed train that would take it west of Capitol Boulevard. Several neighborhood groups in and around the Five Points area oppose that route, citing noise and vibration they say would affect property values and quality of life. Several dozen residents spoke up at a public hearing last week.
Another proposed route would take the train east of capitol boulevard. The high-speed train will eventually link Raleigh to Richmond, Virginia.
At the meeting the city council is expected to make a final recommendation to the state Department of Transportation.
