Update: Wright gives up his gavels

The AP is reporting tonight that embattled New Hanover Democrat Thomas Wright is giving up his chairmanship of the House Health committee and the House Appropriations capital subcommittee.
Wright apparently announced the move today in an email sent to Speaker Joe Hackney and the caucus, in which Wright said he didn't want his campaign finance investigation to "cast a cloud" on the party.
Meantime, the WIlmington Star-News reported yesterday that the Wright probe is growing more serious by the day, with State Elections Board officials now calling it a criminal investigation. Stay tuned.
