The Senate just voted 38 to 9 to repeal the land transfer tax option.

Senator David Hoyle (D-Gaston) ran the bill, arguing that the tax's 20 straight defeats made it clear no one wants the tax.

Dems Ellie Kinnaird, Charlie Dannelly, and Floyd McKissick argued for the tax, saying voters in the rest of the state ought to be allowed to decide for themselves.

Doug Berger (D-Franklin) objected to third reading (he wants to add restrictions to the sales tax option, too), so the final vote may not take place for a few days.
