Welcome back! For those of you who've been out of town or just offline for the Thanksgiving Day holiday, here's what you might've missed:

  • NC Secretary of State Elaine Marshall lost her husband to cancer this weekend.   The AP reports William Holdford died at home Saturday morning after a year-long battle with cancer.  The Marshall family will receive friends this evening at Joyners Funeral Home in Wilson.  The funeral will be held tomorrow.
  • Also on the Marshall beat, the N&O's Rob Christensen looks at why Marshall gets no respect from national Dems looking for a 2010 Senate candidate.
  • The AP’s Gary Robertson reports tax revenues aren’t out of the woods yet, and state budget writers are keeping a close eye on the month-by-month numbers.
  • Special Prosecutor Bill Kenerly says the Easley case may take longer to sort out than he’d originally predicted. The N&O’s Andy Curliss explains.
  • Senator Larry Shaw (D-Cumberland) tells Fay-O’s Andrew Barksdale he hasn’t decided whether he’ll run again.
  • Winston-Salem’s James Romoser reports on Congresswoman Virginia Foxx’s penchant for, um, interesting remarks on the House floor.
  • 20 state lawmakers (correction: 19 Ds and 1 R) signed onto a letter asking the AG to look into Blue Cross’s political activities.  Greensboro’s Mark Binker has details.
  • The NCGOP hired Russell Peck as its new executive director.  More on Peck at Dome.
  • Charlotte’s Jack Betts says nice things about Gov Bev Perdue’s attitude toward ethics and transparency.

Comments? Drop me a line.
