"Spamacain?"
Or "Spamarama," or maybe “frequent spammer points” -- no term has yet been coined for the concept, but that's likely to change now that McCain's campaign is offering "loyalty points" to supporters who post pro-McCain comments at targeted blogs. No, really. I’ve seen plenty of orchestrated commenter-thons, but none that let you accrue rewards points for prizes. WaPo’s Mark Fahri has the details.
You gotta admit it’s a pretty enterprising ploy for a guy who admits he doesn’t even do email. But I’m not sure I understand why he’s targeting right-wing forums. Shouldn’t they already be in the tank for him? For instance, in NC, McCain supporters can earn points for preaching to the choir at Katy’s Conservative Corner, but not at Binker or Dome or Blue NC. That’s just…odd. The list is here.

Here’s the McCain ad that started it, and here’s Hilton’s response. I believe I feel a new tag line coming on. You’ll figure it out.
Closer to home
The NC Budget and Tax Center announced today that 175,000 North Carolinians have missed out on $53M in economic stimulus checks. Why? They’re too poor. (You couldn’t make this one up if you tried.)
The federal stimulus program used 2007 tax returns as the basis for its refund list. So those who didn’t make enough money to have to file taxes didn’t get a stimulus check, either, even though they needed one more than most of us who did.
BTC’s Meg Gray says most of the people who haven’t claimed their checks are low-income seniors, veterans living on VA benefits, and the permanently disabled. Some haven’t filed tax returns in years and may not know they’re even eligible for the rebate. But it’s not too late to apply: the final deadline for filing a rebate claim isn’t till October 15th. So if you’ve got free money coming, hop to it, people. The economy needs you.
