Thursday: The tree

Just a quick post tonight - I'm headed out to an Electionline conference in Atlanta tomorrow morning. More after I get there.
Meantime, in case you missed it, I had a story this morning on the Legislative Building's Christmas tree, and the guy who's been decorating it in near-anonymity for almost three decades: Stan Yelverton. The story's here.
Thanks for all the great feedback on this story. As our morning host, Eric Hodge, pointed out to me, there's someone like Stan in pretty much any building. Someone who goes above and beyond at holiday time, whether it's a tree or a food drive -- not because they get credit for it, but because it's just who they are. So if you know someone like that, do us all a favor: say thanks.
New to the hot seat
Senate shuffle
Senate pro tem Marc Basnight's office announced today that eight-term Senator John Kerr (D-Wayne) won't run for re-election in '08. Kerr joins three other Senate Dems checking out - Kay Hagan (running for US Senate), Walter Dalton (Lt. Gov.), and Janet Cowell (Treasurer). On the GOP side, two are out: Fred Smith (Gov. contender) and Robert Pittenger (Lt. Gov.).
Also rumored to be on the bubble: Senate Dems David Hoyle, Malcolm Graham, and Katie Dorsett. Anyone know anything?
Comments? Drop me a line.
