Well, so much for that. But it was a close one. (Correction: See below.)
After his amendment repealing the land transfer tax was ruled out (four ways) of the budget debate, Minority leader Paul Stam did his best to convince the House to suspend the rules and bring the proposal up for a vote.
Rules Chair Bill Owens reminded Stam that he'd gotten a break on the rules yesterday, but "today's a different story."
Stam's motion failed 54-59, so it looks like there won't be a transfer tax vote today.

Correction: The Speaker's office sent word down that the motion
to suspend the rules would have required a 2/3 vote, not a simple
majority. So it wasn't really even close. Sorry about that!
