Weird story of the weekend: WRAL reports a Durham man was arrested inside the old State Capitol early this morning after busting out a window. State Capitol police think he was trying to get into the Governor's press office. He allegedly damaged a Christmas tree and a water cooler.
“Fayetteville Mafia”: The N&O’s Mike Biesecker had a great story this morning on LEA, the security company whose board chairman is former Senate majority leader Tony Rand (D-Fayetteville). Turns out former DMV Commissioner George Tatum failed to disclose he owned 30K plus shares of LEA at the time his agency was buying equipment from the company under no-bid contracts. Tatum’s boss, former DOT Secretary Lyndo Tippett, owned a lot of shares, too. Oops.
Before and after: Asheville’s John Boyle reports on a local firm lured across the SC border by a generous economic incentive package. Meanwhile, in Winston-Salem, James Romoser says departing computer-maker Dell doesn’t think it should have to repay some of its incentives after all.
Changing of the guard: Charlotte’s Jim Morrill has a nice retrospective package on the tenure of outgoing Mayor Pat McCrory. Will we see him back on the campaign trail in 2012? Some say yes. Also at Char-O, Steve Harrison sits down with McCrory’s successor, Anthony Foxx, to talk about his early agenda.
Comments? Drop me a line.
