WRAL is reporting that Wake Senator Vernon Malone has passed away. Longtime Dem consultant Brad Crone announced today that Malone died of "natural causes" at his Raleigh home. Malone hadn't shown any signs of illness - in fact, he was on the floor and voting Thursday, just two days ago.
From what I've known covering him, Malone was always a gentleman, always kind and thoughtful, and he took his responsibility to his constituents, his seat, and his state very seriously. He will be missed.
