Veterans' Park Opens Independence Day

A new park honoring all members of the military opens Monday in Fayetteville. A dedication ceremony for the North Carolina Veterans' State Park is scheduled for 10 a.m. on the Fourth of July. Jennifer Lowe works for the city of Fayetteville. She says among the displays is the "Oath Wall" which features the raised hands of military members taking the enlistment oath.

Jennifer Lowe: "We have one casted bronze hand from every one of the 100 counties in North Carolina and actually on this wall where those hands are going to be displayed in the park there are 99 right hands and one left hand because the particular veteran chosen for that esteem in that county actually lost his right hand in combat."
Lowe says the park also has water features, art installations and a visitor center. It's located downtown behind the Airborne and Special Operations Museum.
