State Auditor Beth Wood Defends Work

Recent controversy over the handling of the Medicaid system by the state’s Department of Health and Human Service has pointed a spotlight on a seemingly non-controversial office: the state auditor.

Tasked with assessing programs of many of the state’s governmental agencies, the auditor seeks to provide  information in a politically charged environment. Host Frank Stasio talks with State Auditor Beth Wood about the Medicaid audit and the work of her office.

Longtime NPR correspondent Frank Stasio was named permanent host of The State of Things in June 2006. A native of Buffalo, Frank has been in radio since the age of 19. He began his public radio career at WOI in Ames, Iowa, where he was a magazine show anchor and the station's News Director.
