Republican U.S. Representative Renee Ellmers Debates Democrat Clay Aiken Today

Renee Ellmers, Clay Aiken

Republican U.S. Representative Renee Ellmers will face her challenger, Democrat Clay Aiken in a debate today at Pinehurst.

The event will take place before a live audience at a North Carolina Bankers Association conference today. Ellmers is generally acknowledged to be leading the race in the second district. State legislators redrew it in 2011 to favor Republicans.

Pollsters haven't released any numbers on this race. But Aiken's presence has generated interest from people across the country. He's a well-known nam.   As an American Idol runner-up, he has garnered national press in his effort to unseat Ellmers.  The debate is being taped for broadcaston local television.  It will air at 7:00 tonight on WRAL-TV and at 11:oo tonight on WRAZ-TV (FOX 50).
