New App for Visiting State Parks
Visitors to the North Carolina State Parks can take advantage of a new smart phone app. The Pocket Ranger Mobile Tour Guide can be downloaded from the iTunes Store and Android Market. It includes maps for parks and campgrounds and a social networking tool that allows users to share experiences in real time.
The State Parks' Charlie Peek says it's the first app of its kind to offer so many features.
Charlie Peek: "The pro version has GPS aided systems, tells you where you are, helps you link up with friends and family, and you can send emergency messages if you need to."
With the new app, you can also record your hikes, track plant and animal species, and link up to the reservation system. Peek says proceeds from the upgraded version will go to benefit the nonprofit Friends of State Parks.
