Campaigns, Groups Spend Big On TV
The campaigns for President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney and the outside groups that support them spent almost $70 million on tv ads in North Carolina.
That's more than 10 dollars per registered voter in the state, just on TV ads. And while the Obama Campaign outspent the Romney campaign $ 24 million to $ 17 million, Republican SuperPacs and other organizations dominated the airwaves, outspending both campaigns. According to the National Journal, two groups led by Republican strategist Karl Rove, American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS, spent more than 12 million dollars here. No democratic SuperPac or other organization spent money on TV ads in the presidential race in the state. The numbers solidify North Carolina as an important swing state. Only five states saw a total higher than the $70 million spent on TV ads here. Ohio topped the list at $189 million.
